Lawyer

Richel Castaneda

Richel Castaneda is a lawyer at Zubas Flett Law and is passionate about helping both employees and employers navigate through their complex legal issues in the workplace. Richel is a tenacious advocate, keen in solving problems. She has over eight years of experience in client-facing roles, and is dedicated in delivering exceptional service and practical solutions to clients.

Prior to joining Zubas Flett Law, Richel articled at a litigation firm where she conducted case law research and drafted a variety of legal documents on matters before the Small Claims Court, Superior Court of Ontario, and Court of Appeal.

Richel holds a law degree from the University of Ottawa, and completed her final year of studies at Osgoode Hall Law School. Given her interest in employment law, Richel secured internships at the Workers’ Health and Safety Legal Clinic and the Toronto District School Board (TDSB). These internships led to a deeper understanding of both parties in the employment relationship. During her time at the Workers’ Health and Safety Legal Clinic, Richel assisted non-unionized employees on issues such as wrongful dismissal, discrimination, constructive dismissal, and workplace harassment. At the TDSB, Canada’s largest school board, Richel supported the legal team in addressing human rights and labour issues.

Before law school, Richel completed her Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology with Distinction from the University of Toronto. She also has over two years of experience working as a Settlement Counselor, and is a Co-Founder of the Filipino Canadian Lawyers Network.

During her free time, Richel enjoys making food vlogs, practicing yoga, and hiking.
